NEMA 1 |
Primarily indoors use to provide
protection against contact with the enclosed equipment. |

NEMA 3R |
Outdoor use primarily to provide a
degree of protection against falling rain, sleet, and
external ice formation. Not intended to protect against
dust. |

NEMA 3 |
Outdoors use primarily to provide a
degree of protection against windblown dust, rain, sleet,
and external ice formation. |
|
NEMA 4 |
Indoor or outdoor use primarily to
provide a degree of protection against windblown dust and
rain, splashing water and hose directed water. |
|
NEMA 4X |
Indoor or outdoor use primarily to
provide a degree of protection against windblown dust and
rain, corrosion, splashing water and hose directed water.
*Stainless steel or fiberglass housing usually provided. |

NEMA 6 |
Indoors or outdoors use primarily to
provide a degree of protection against the entry of water
during occasional temporary submersion at a depth of 6 feet
for 30 minutes. Not intended to provide protection against
corrosive environments. |

NEMA 12 |
Indoor use to provide a degree of
protection against dust, falling dirt and dripping water. |
|
NEMA 13 |
Indoor use to provide a degree of
protection against dust, spraying of water, oil and
noncorrosive coolant. |

NEMA 7 |
Indoor use for class I, Groups A, B, C
or D. It shall be capable of withstanding the pressures
resulting from an internal explosion of specified gases. |

NEMA 9 |
Indoors use for Class II, Groups E, F,
and G. Prevent entrance of dust and contain heat from
devices so not to ignite or discolor accumulated dust on
enclosure. |
